Last year he successfully negotiated settlement of four fatal asbestos claims on behalf of the families of former miners who had contracted mesothelioma whilst employed at pits in Nottinghamshire. The men had come into contact with the asbestos whilst carrying out repair and maintenance work in the boiler houses and in other areas on the surface of the pits. Over £500K in compensation was secured.
Ian also acted for a claimant arising out of his employment with a steel manufacturing firm in Yorkshire. The County Court held that the case had been brought too late and dismissed the claim. Permission to appeal was granted and the claim came before a higher court in February this year. The higher court overturned the lower courts decision and the claimant’s case was allowed to proceed.
When not in work he enjoys playing golf, going to the gym and hill walking.
