Mesothelioma patients aged 65 and over should automatically receive Attendance Allowance paid at the highest rate, regardless of how they are affected by the illness.
Those aged under 65 should automatically receive Disability Living Allowance Care and Mobility Components – once again regardless of symptoms.
These payments are not means tested either. Your GP, consultant or specialist nurse will need to complete a form confirming the diagnosis (called a DS1500) which should be sent with the application forms.
