Experimental mesothelioma treatment shows promising results

by Adrian Budgen 17. June 2009 10:53

Debbie Brewer, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2006, has been undergoing chemoembolisation treatment in Frankfurt, Germany.

The treatment, which introduces chemotherapy directly into a tumour, appears to be having dramatic results with Debbie’s tumour shrinking by 83%.

At the moment chemoembolisation is only available at Frankfurt University where the clinical trial is taking place. Mesothelioma UK, with Debbie’s support, is campaigning to make the treatment available on the NHS.

Debbie, who is funding the treatment using the money from her compensation settlement, has been speaking to the BBC about the treatment. See the BBC’s meeting with Debbie Brewer

I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie at last year’s Mesothelioma Patient & Carer Day in Leeds. The event was organised by Mesothelioma UK and sponsored by the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund. Debbie spoke about this new course of treatment and the remarkable results. She is an extraordinary lady, with a very positive attitude. Debbie has her own website, which is certainly worth a visit.
