Asbestos Exposure At Clarence House?

by Adrian Budgen 13. October 2009 09:17

The Daily Mail is reporting on the death of the former Private Secretary to the Queen Mother from mesothelioma.

Sir Alastair Aird organised the removal of asbestos from Clarence House, the Queen Mother’s residence, in the 1990s.

An inquest is to be held to investigate his death further, however it seems possible at this that his exposure to asbestos was a result of his work on removing asbestos from Clarence House.

This case reminds us that asbestos exposure is not limited to tradesmen and blue-collar workers. Medical staff, teachers, even MPs in the House of Commons could be at risk as building work carried out prior to the ban on asbestos use begins to deteriorate.
