The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will begin a campaign on the 2nd November to promote awareness of the dangers of asbestos.
The campaign will look to help tradesmen identify when they might be working with asbestos and how they can protect themselves.
HSE ran a similar campaign last year which led to 71% of those surveyed saying they had planned to take further precautions.
Hopefully this year’s campaign will be even more successful. According to HSE, asbestos-related disease accounts for around 4,000 deaths each year, with more people dying as a result of asbestos exposure than in road accidents. With that in mind I applaud any effort to make people more aware of the dangers of asbestos exposure.
